Play is vital for children. It helps them to understand the world around them and to develop socially and emotionally. It is through play that our children learn and develop at their own pace and have fun with adults who understand, support and care about them. We want the children we care for to feel secure.
The children have many opportunities throughout the day to engage in physical play, as well as adult initiated play, coupled with free flow access to the outdoor area. The experiences and activities that the children engage in will further develop their imagination and imaginiative play.
Play also builds a child’s confidence and self-esteem, thus allowing the children to build relationships with their peers and to begin to learn to take turns and share. There are many, many opportunities to engage in play at the All Saints Day Nursery from child-initiated play, adult-initiated play to parallel play.
As children develop, their play needs change too. It is important that the play environment is appealing, exciting and enriching to further stimulate the children’s imagination which is achieved through high quality play experiences.
At the All Saints Day Nursery, we are fortunate that we have access to Southside Sports where the children can use their gross motor skills in participating in games. Last Year our Sports Day took place there with all the children and adults! It was a lovely experience and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the event! This year we will be holding another Sports Day and Summer Party there, weather permitting!!
